Ascot Homeowners Association On Tuesday, August 15, 2006, the Board met at Mick Fox's home for our monthly meeting. Those in attendance included Mick, Lars Okeson, Heide Zufall, Dave Peirce, and Ken Thomas for part of the meeting. Approval of the Minutes Minutes from the May 17th meeting were approved. Architectural Review The Board unanimously approved a construction project for the home of Ken and Corinne Thomas. Ken Thomas presented their plans for bumping out the kitchen. He has notified his surrounding neighbors of his plans. As a reminder, if you have plans for home improvement, please check Ascot HOA covenants found on our website: www.ascotwalk.org which outlines procedures for gaining architectural approval. Also, please check with your immediate neighbors prior to coming to the board to ensure your improvements have a positive impact. Webmaster Needed Lars announced that the position of Webmaster is open. The board thanks Scott Rackham who served as our Webmaster for the past few years. We appreciate all he has done for our community. He and Jo have sold their home and have moved out to the country. We sadly see them go. We are now seeking a new Webmaster. Scott says that maintaining our website requires just basic familiarity with HTML formatting. Posting monthly minutes or other documents is simple and takes hardly any time, so maintaining the Web site won't take any real effort unless the new Webmaster decides to re-vamp the website. Scott is happy to answer any questions. Please send an email to him at webmaster@ascotwalk.org if you are interested. Animal Control Mick informed the board that as of July 1, 2006, Virginia passed new legislation regarding the control of dangerous and vicious dogs within a statewide mandated framework. The bill imposes criminal penalties ranging from a Class 2 misdemeanor to a class 6 felony for violations that result in injury to a person or death to a cat or dog. A copy of the complete text of the statute (Virginia Code § 3.1-796.93:1) can be found here on our website. The board discussed the issue of dangerous dogs in our community and has agreed that neighbors should place their complaints directly to contact animal control. Common Ground Dave Peirce is still in the process of entirely replacing the basketball hoop furthest from Bishopgate Way and fixing a broken piece from the other basketball hoop. The Board plans to remove the dead tree located on the northwest side of the tennis court. They will also arrange for some pruning around the tennis court and along Bishopsgate Way. Annual Dues Payment Lars informed the Board that as of the August 15th meeting, 67 homes have paid their dues. Lars will contact the remaining two homeowners who have not yet paid. Please pay the $120.00 to the Ascot address below if you have not already paid. Annual General Membership Meeting and Election This year's annual general membership meeting, and election of Board members for the next twelve months, will be held in the library at Forestville Elementary School at 7:30 pm on Monday, the 23th of October. (NOTE: This is a change from the date originally scheduled). Every vote is important. The Board will distribute proxy forms early in September for members who will not be able to attend in person. Homeowners who would be willing to serve on the Board for the one-year period, to September 2007, are asked to contact any current Board member to volunteer as a candidate for election. Respectfully submitted, COMMUNITY NOTES Annual Multi-Neighborhood Picnic Our multi-neighborhood picnic is coming up on Sunday, September 10th at the common area. The rain date is on September 17th. Our neighbors in the Brandermill and Piney Run communities will be joining us. Many thanks to Sounia Chaney for organizing this not-to-be-missed event. Please contact her if you would like to help.
