Ascot Board Minutes -- May 2005

Ascot Homeowners Association
Minutes of Board of Directors Meeting -- Tuesday, May 10, 2005
Prepared by Secretary, Scott Rackham

Board members Claudia Raffman, Lars Okeson, and Scott Rackham met at the Okesons' on Tuesday, the 10th of May.

Tennis Court

Lars reported that 22 homeowners had paid their share of the Special Assessment for repair of the tennis court, as of May 10th.   Lars provided a comparison of the renewed quotes he had obtained from Bishops Tennis and Sport Systems for repair of the tennis court.   The final price from Bishops was slightly lower than the price from Sport Systems for the same work.   Lars reported that he was already convinced that Bishops will do a good job, but promised to also ask them to provide references that he can check for comments on the quality of their effort.  Lars also reported that, according to Bishops Tennis, it is not ideal to have trees immediately surrounding a tennis court, as they do the Ascot tennis court, but they did not judge the root systems of the leyland cypress trees currently to present a significant risk of causing serious damage to the court.  Bishops Tennis did, however, recommend that the limbs of the closest trees be trimmed back away from the fence.

The Board has authorized Lars to engage Bishops Tennis for the asphalt overlay repairs at a price of $26,323, provided their references check out as expected.

Common Grounds

Claudia reported that she had not yet heard back from Sunrise, after asking them to advise whether the leaning cypress at the front of the tennis court can successfully be straightened or moved.  Claudia will ask Sunrise to remove the evergreen that has died in front of the basketball court and to provide a quote on trimming back the trees immediately surrounding the tennis court.

Next Meeting

The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14th, at 7:30 pm, at the Peirces' home.

Respectfully submitted,
Scott Rackham
Secretary

UPDATES AND COMMUNITY NOTES:

Tennis Court

Subsequent to the May 10th Board meeting, Lars contacted three references for Bishops Tennis.  All provided very positive feedback.  Based on that, and as authorized by the Board, Lars executed the contract with Bishops Tennis on May 21, 2005, for $26,323.  The work is expected to commence sometime during June 2005.

Common ground at north end of Bishopsgate Way

Falls Park Estates homeowner Tony Bansal remains interested in landscaping the Ascot common ground on the slope between his lot and Bishopsgate Way.  The Board is still waiting for him to provide a detailed description of the work he would have done.

Ladies Wristwatch Found

Anne Marckesano has reported finding a lady's wristwatch lying in the street at the intersection of Bishopsgate Way and Burywood Lane early in April.  She's holding it for recovery by the owner.  If it's yours, call Anne, describe it to her, and she'll be happy to return it to you.

Speeding

A number of homeowners have complained about contractors speeding through the neighborhood.  If you hire contractors to work on your property, please point out to them that we have no sidewalks in the community.  Children and adults walk on our roads.  Ask your contractors to watch out for pedestrians, and to stay under the posted 25 mph speed limit.

Contacting the Board

Homeowners are welcome to contact the Board about the tennis court or other community concerns. Write to Ascot Homeowners Association, PO Box 934, Great Falls, Virginia 22066-0934.  Contact any Board member.  Or send email --
