Meetings of the Board of Directors The Ascot Homeowners Association Board met for the General meeting on September 8th at the Great Fall Grange at 7:30 pm. The following board members and homeowners were present -- Bob Naftal, Lars Okeson, Judy Lee, Alice Burns, Scott and Jo Rackham, Janice and Dave Roland, Paul Celluzzi, Tara Ruszkowski, and Mary Tugwell. Election: The first order of business was to elect a new board for the coming year. There were 19 votes cast, 9 by proxy, and 10 by the homeowners present. The community elected the following homeowners to be on the board for the coming year -- Bob Naftal, Lars Okeson, Mike Lee, Scott Rackham, and Alice Burns. Anybody willing to help the community is welcome to come to the board meetings. Treasurer's Report: Lars reported that everyone has paid their dues for the year 2003. He reported on our financial position for the year, and that it looks like we will have about a $300 surplus. Common Grounds: Tennis Court -- The tennis court repairs were done but not to our satisfaction. Lars withheld payment on part of the bill until the cracks are smoother. The repairs cost more than expected this year. A homeowner suggest that the board replace the spruce tree that was removed, to better shield the basketball court from the road. It was suggested that we should replace the old hoop or at least get a new net. There were also concerns about the "bush hogging" on the common ground. Some homeowners thought that mowing the grass would cause a loss of wildlife habitat. Please let us know your opinion on the bush hogging efforts. The board would like to have a long-term plan for the maintenance of the common ground. Website: Paul reported that the website will have to be moved from his personal hosting spot to an independent hosting company. The cost will be approximately $15 to $30 per month. Please take a look at the site for useful information such as -- county information, minutes, bylaws, pictures, and school information. The website also has a community room to post ads or just helpful information. Colleen Ferguson has graciously volunteered to take over the website. Bike Path: Bob contacted VDOT about starting early on the walking path that will run from Reston Parkway to Piney Run. They said they will get back to him. Bob is cautiously optimistic. The meeting concluded with applause at 9:00 pm. Respectfully submitted, Alice Burns Web: Check out the new website www.ascotwalk.org . |
